Five people have been taken into police custody for violating Covid-19 travel restrictions.
Three were arrested after travelling to Bilehfahi island in Shaviyani atoll, an island currently under monitoring.
Noting that entry and exit from Bilehfahfi is currently prohibited, police said that the three had gone there from Feydhoo island (in the same atoll) via a dinghy on Monday evening.
The 27-year-old, 28-year-old and 31-year-old were arrested while on their way back from Bilehfahi.
Further, two men that attempted to get on to Landhoo island from Manadhoo (both in Noonu atoll) have also been arrested.
Police said that Landhoo island’s Covid-19 taskforce had blocked their entry on the island, forcing them to return to Manadhoo.
Both men, a 39-year-old and 40-year-old, were arrested on Monday night.
Both cases are under investigation.
Unauthorized travel between islands have been following the detection of a Covid-19 community transmission in the capital.
