Four people have been arrested for breaching lockdown, while 38 were fined.

The four were arrested after repeatedly violating the director general of public health’s orders, and have been fined previously, as per protocol.

While 38 people have been fined on Tuesday, a total of 209 people have been fined since the lockdown was extended on Friday; the capital was placed under a 24-hour lockdown initially which was extended by another 24 hours before being extended by 14 days.

This was revealed by Assistant Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen at the press conference held at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) on Tuesday night, who noted that 44 people have also been provided temporary shelter following lockdown. This includes 43 men and one woman.

In addition, Naveen noted that 71 foreigners with nowhere to go were taken to a facility in the capital. These are all Bangladeshi nationals.

Malé City has been on lockdown since April 15, which will remain until April 30.
