Several islands have begun taking measures following the confirmation of a Covid-19 case in the capital.

The Male' City case is the first documented case of community spread, with patient zero unknown still, and this prompted other islands to take further measures to curb a spread in the respective islands.

As such, southernmost Addu City has urged its residents to stay home as authorities work to figure out patient zero through contact tracing.

In addition, a household from the city has been placed under monitoring as a resident was identified as a contact of the Male' City case.

The city council also noted that a number of people arrived from the capital within the recent days.

It advised those with any flu-like symptoms to contact the flu clinic, via its hotline 6 884973, and to follow their directions.

Kulhudhuffushi City council has also asked all arrivals within the last 14 days to self-isolate for at least the same amount of days.

The council said that a taskforce established to implement measures to protect the island’s residents from the virus that has been spreading rapidly across the world, has been working alongside the relevant authorities.

It further urged them to practice physical distancing even while at home.

The council asked those showing flu-like symptoms to contact Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, at their hotline 760 6688.

Furthermore, Hanimaadhoo island in Haa Dhaalu atoll has begun noting those arriving on the island, as well as exiting. The island council called for volunteers, adding that registration is open till 12pm on Friday.
