The government has facilitated the delivery of care packages to Maldivians stuck in Cochin and Trivandrum of India amid the Covid-19 crisis.

While a repatriation flight from Trivandrum is scheduled for April 11, the flight will carry the care packages to the neighboring nation.

Families that wish to send packages have to submit a form at the foreign ministry, and service will be prioritized on a first-come-first-serve basis. The first 600 forms will be accepted, and the maximum weight of a package per family is 15kg.

The packages are to be handed over on April 10, at a special counter near the departure gate at Velana International Airport (VIA), from 8am to 11am and 2pm to 6pm.

While a repatriation flight from Trivandrum is to arrive on Saturday, it has been revealed that most of the passengers are those that have been stranded there due to cancellation of flights following the lockdown announced in India.

The national airline, Maldivian, evacuated 189 Maldivians stranded in Cochin on Monday, and 199 from Colombo, Sri Lanka earlier. 197 Maldivians in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, returned on Wednesday.

All arrivals are being quarantined in government designated places, and will be released after being tested for Covid-19.

Authorities have also delivered care packages to Colombo and Kuala Lumpur.

The government has also chartered cargo flights to Colombo, Trivandrum and Chennai, Bangkok and Dubai.
