Long queues were formed at the care package drop-off for Maldivians in Sri Lanka.
Care packages are to be submitted to the Checking Office at the Greater Male’ Bus Station, every Saturday between 9 am to 1 pm and will be transported via cargo flights of the country's national airline, Maldivian. As such, a large number of people began queuing outside as soon as the office opened. Maldivian states that they have accepted 666 packages, so far.
The cargo flight is set to depart on Sunday. There are an estimated 15,000 Maldivians residing in the neighbouring island nation. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the High Commission of Maldives in Sri Lanka will be in charge of delivering the packages to the intended recipients.
The families of the care package recipients are instructed to register online at the Foreign Ministry's website and have been urged to confirm registry as well. Each family can send up to 15 kilograms worth of items.
