Government offices, schools and all educational institutions have been closed since 19th March.

No fines will be imposed on those whose visas expired during the public holidays

Applications to renew visas will be accepted up until 10 days of government offices re-opening.

Fines will not be imposed on work or other types of visas that expire during public holidays.

Spokesperson for the government's Covid-19 taskforce, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz made the announcement while speaking at the National Emergency Operations Centre's (NEOC) daily press briefing held on Friday night.

Highlighting concerns raised by expatriates, Mabrook stated that applications to renew visas will be accepted up until 10 days of government offices re-opening.

No fines will be imposed on those whose visas expired during the public holidays, said Mabrook.

Government offices, schools and all educational institutions have been closed since 19th March. The public holidays were initially declared for a period one week but has since been extended twice.

This was done as a precautionary measure in light of the current situation across the Maldives amid ever-increasing fears of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).
