Spokesperson for the government's Covid-19 taskforce, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz has stated that no solution has been found for Maldivians stranded in neighbouring India, yet.

Mabrook made the statement while responding to a question at Thursday's press briefing held by the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).

While India and the Maldives has strong bilateral ties, a solution has yet to be found for Maldivians stranded in the neighbouring country, said Mabrook.

During the press briefing, he also stated that efforts are underway to evacuate Maldivians via transit flights if possible.

There are many concerns over Maldivians stranded abroad, especially in India where many locals travel for medical treatment and risk running out of funds during the lockdown declared in the neighbouring country.

On Thursday, medicines were procured through the State Trading Organization (STO) from various cities of India was brought to the Maldives with the support of the Indian armed forces. Another 7.2 tonnes of medicines ordered by STO is set to arrive in the near future.

The shipment was stuck in India as movement to and from the country was restricted and has resulted in difficulties in arranging flights.
