While the government has announced that resort staff will be allowed to leave their respective islands of employment after the departure of the last tourist on the resort, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) will make arrangements for the departure of resort workers on case-by-case reviews, in circumstances where the last tourist may have a long-term booking.
Speaking at Thursday's press briefing by the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), Spokesperson for the government’s Covid-19 taskforce, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz addressed concerns raised regarding the government's recent announcement, allowing resort workers to leave the respective island 14-days after the last tourist departs. He noted that some members of the public have inquired about the set protocol in the circumstance where the last tourist is booked to leave after a month or more.
He stated that, in such circumstances, the HPA will make arrangements for resort staff to leave the island based on case-by-case reviews, upon the request of the resort management.
The management can contact HPA via e-mail at [email protected], said Mabrook.
The government had previously imposed precautionary travel restrictions between resorts and all inhabited islands of the country. Under the restriction, all travel between inhabited islands of Maldives and resorts has been banned for a period of 14 days.
