A foreign yacht has been quarantined in the Maldives for two weeks, reveals Spokesperson for the government’s Covid-19 taskforce, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz.
While speaking at Thursday's press briefing by the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), Mabrook stated that there are two people on the cruise yacht that arrived in the Maldives after entry via sea route had been banned into the country.
He revealed that the yacht had requested to dock in the Maldives for one day until winds turn and to refuel the vessel. Mabrook went onto add that permission was granted to the vessel, however, the yacht has been placed under quarantine for a period of 14-days.
Further, Mabrook announced that a total of 798 samples have been collected thus far, out of which 781 samples have tested negative while 17 samples are still pending results.
Highlighting that eight of the confirmed Covid-19 cases have recovered, Mabrook stated that the remaining five patients are the two cases from Kuredu Island Resort, two from Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort and one case from "Island Safari 1".
Moreover, he noted that Cinnamon Hakuraa Huraa Maldives is under monitoring status again, however, it is due to an unrelated index case. Other locations under monitoring status include JA Manafaru Maldives Resort in addition to Maha Safari Boat and "Island Safari 1".
Additionally, in regard to the statistics from isolation and quarantine facilities, Mabrook disclosed that 18 people are at Velidhoo isolation facility, three at DH-11 and that a total of 737 people are under isolation at various facilities across the country.
These facilities are Biyaadhoo Island Resort, Fun Island Resort, Holiday Island, Hulhule’ Island Hotel, Malahini Kuda Bandos, Embudhu Village, Velidhoo Island Resort, Dhiggiri Tourist Resort, Royal Island, Madivaru Maldives Resor and Kandima Maldives, said Mabrook.
Dr. Moosa Murad - also speaking at the press briefing - went onto clarify that one of the three patients at DH-11 is currently undergoing treatment while the other two have recovered and are still being monitored as per protocol.
