Broadcom to probe misconduct by local news channel
Police received multiple complaints against a channel on Wednesday night
This comes at a time Channel 13 journalists have claimed that a Maldivian has tested positive to Covid-19
Channel 13 was probed by MBC on a previous occasion as well

Maldives Police Service (MPS), has ordered the Maldives Broadcasting Commission of the Maldives (MBC) to investigate a complaint regarding false information telecast by a local news channel in the country.

This was revealed by police media official, who told RaajjeMV that they received multiple complaints against a TV channel on Wednesday night. Following this, police have sought MBC to look into the matter, as it falls under the commission’s jurisdiction.

However, police did not disclose the channel accused of spreading false information.

This comes at a time Channel 13 has asserted that a Maldivian has tested positive to the globally-spreading Covid-19, and is being treated at Dharumavantha Hospital.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), all 13 who have tested positive to the virus in Maldives are foreigners.

Channel 13 journalists had during a programme, claimed that a Maldivian has tested positive to Covid-19 and is being treated at Dharumavantha Hospital.

Broadcom had launched investigations into comments made during the programme on a previous occasion as well. The channel came under fire for said comments and parliamentarians as well as the public had urged the journalists at the channel to stop spreading false information.
