The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has ordered all educational institutions to be shut down for a period of 14 days, as a precautionary measure against Covid-19.
Universities, colleges and all training centres are instructed to be suspended for two weeks, effective immediately, under the powers granted to the Director-General of Public Health as per section 34 of the Public Health, reads the statement released by HPA on Saturday.
While this orders comes shortly after the country confirmed its 10th Covid-10 case and after Thursday's declaration of a state of emergency, schools reopening after mid-term break was delayed prior to this (students were on break from 6-14 March); as of now schools are set to re-open on March 22nd while universities and other educational institutions will restart on 29th March.
The government's Covid-19 spokesperson, Mabrook Aziz had earlier stated that the mid-term holiday extension may be subject to change according to the country's public health situation. Speaking to RaajjeMV, Mabrook revealed that any change to the mid-term holiday extension will come via the education ministry and that no change has been finalised yet.
