Covid-19: 70-yo patient required close monitoring, to be moved to Dharumavantha Hospital
The 70-year-old and spouse had tested positive from Sandies Bathala Maldives
Both will be transferred to Dharumavantha Hospital
They are to be kept in the special observatory room for patients with respiratory issues

One of the Covid-19 patients from Sandies Bathala Maldives is being transferred to Dharumavantha Hospital in the capital, for close monitoring.

Government’s Covid-19 spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz announced this during Tuesday night’s press conference, revealing that one of the two patients from the resort is of 70 years of age.

Two foreigners, out of three, tested positive for coronavirus from Sandies Bathala Maldives.

Mabrook said that two are a married couple, adding that the 70-year-old is required to further monitoring.

Hence, the couple is to be moved to Dharumavantha Hospital. Mabrook said that only the 70-yo patient is required further monitoring, but that the two are being moved to the capital “as they are a couple”.

They are to be kept in the special observatory room for patients with respiratory issues.

While Sandies Bathala has been quarantined since the cases were confirmed on Sunday, two additional foreigners are being tested from the resort after showing Covid-19 like symptoms.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that these individuals are “close contacts of a confirmed case”.

A total of six coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the Maldives since Saturday; two from Bathala and four from Kuredu Island Resort.

Kuredu is also under lockdown for a period determined by agencies and experts, and five more people are being transferred to the isolation facility from the resort after showing Covid-19 like symptoms.

While these are the only two islands with positive cases so far, temporary restrictive measures have been imposed on multiple islands while awaiting test results.

This includes Vilamendhoo Island Resort, Kuramathi Island Resort and One and Only Reethi Rah. The restrictions on the resorts will be lifted in the results come back negative, but will remain if positive.
