Temporary restrictive measures have been initiated in Kuramathi Island Resort, where an individual is to be tested for Covid-19 after developing possible symptoms.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Tuesday afternoon announced that a foreign national is being transferred from Kuramathi to the isolation facility in Farukolhufushi for testing and monitoring, after developing Covid-19 like symptoms.
Temporary restrictive measures have been placed on the island, as per procedures, as authorities conduct contact tracing.
At a press conference held in the afternoon, government's Covid-19 spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Aziz revealed that a tourist holidaying at Kuramathi is to be tested while the person's spouse will be in isolation at resort.
This is the second individual to be transferred to the isolation facility after showing symptoms on Tuesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, HPA said that a Maldivian employee at Vilamendhoo Island Resort is to be tested for the virus. The resort is on temporary lockdown as well.
These measures will be lifted if the tests are negative, while the lockdown will continue for a period determined by experts if they come back positive.
At Tuesday's press conference, Mabrook said that the individual that developed Covid-19 like symptoms from Vilamendhoo had holidayed in Kuredu prior.
While temporary measures have been initiated on Vilamendhoo Island Resort as well, Kuredu Island Resort and Sandies Bathala are on lockdown following discovery of positive cases. Maldives has confirmed six cases so far, all foreigners; four are from Kuredu while the remaining two are from Sandies Bathala.
