A Maldivian worker from Kuredu Island Resort is being tested for coronavirus.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that a person from Foakaidhoo island of Shaviyani atoll is being transferred to the isolation facility established in Farukolhufushi for monitoring and testing “after developing Covid-19 like symptoms”.
It added that this individual is an employee of Kuredu Island Resort, where two foreign employees have tested positive for the virus.
Citing an official from the Foakaidhoo Council, local media outlet ‘CNM’ reported that this person was on the island when authorities announced the Kuredu Island Resort lockdown. Noting that the individual was isolated at home, the official said that the person had had contact with family members by then. Hence, seven family members are in self-isolation.
The official further said that another resident of the island working in Kuredu Island Resort had returned to the island on Sunday with family, adding that they were placed under isolation upon arrival.
While Kuredu Island Resort has been placed under quarantine with travel restriction as authorities continue to monitor individuals that are to have had direct contact with the patients, as well as secondary contacts. The resort was locked down with 1,427 people; 699 guests and 728 staff members.
Authorities have been placing islands on temporary restrictive measure following possible coronavirus cases, however, the same is yet to be done on Foakaidhoo island.
