The tests results of the suspected case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection from Vaavu atoll Thinadhoo has come back negative, says Health Protection Agency (HPA).
Despite the announcement, HPA states that the individual will be tested once more after 24 hours as they have yet to stop exhibiting symptoms.
HPA has also called off the lock-down on Vaavu atoll Thinadhoo island after concluding contact tracing on the island and other required procedures.
The suspected case of COVID19 infection from Thinadhoo island is an Italian tourist who was placed under quarantine on Friday. Although the country has yet to discover a confirmed case of COVID19, it has been revealed that another Italian tourist who visited the Maldives tested positive for the infection after returning home.
As such, Kurehdhoo island resort has been placed under lockdown with no one allowed to enter or leave the resort. Additionally, Summer Island resort has also been placed under lockdown with the discovery of two French tourists showing symptoms of the respiratory infection.
