A Ukrainian tourist died in a drowning incident on Monday.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the authority received the report a little past 11:30am on Monday afternoon, adding that the incident took place near Rihiveli Beach Resort in Kaafu atoll on Monday.

Authorities reported that the Ukrainian man, 48, died from a seizure while out snorkeling, and that he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Guraidhoo Health Center.

The death is under further investigation by police.

This comes at a time a record number of tourist deaths were reported during 2019, despite which the country's tourist arrivals crossed one million.
