Elections Commission of the Maldives (EC) is to open the opportunity for voters to re-register for the upcoming local council elections.

EC had originally scheduled to call for re-registration on Thursday, the 13th of February.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Vice-President of EC, Ahmed Akram stated that the date for re-registration was changed in order to arrange for better venues to place polling stations.

According to EC, voters are only required to re-register if they wish to change the location of where they want to vote. However, an exception is made for prisons, resorts and industrial zones, said EC.

The re-registration period will last for 12 days after beginning on Sunday.

While EC will open the opportunity to re-register on Sunday, the opportunity to submit complaints regarding the voters' list publicized in the government's gazette was opened on Tuesday.

EC stated that complaints can be submitted on working days from 11th February until 22nd February between 08:30 am and 03:00 pm. Likewise, EC will be open on non-working days from 09:00 am and 03:00 pm whereas the office will be open from 03:00 pm to 05:00 pm on Fridays.

The upcoming local council election is slated for April 4th alongside elections for women's development committees.
