Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is set to launch a nation-wide campaign for the upcoming local council elections under the slogan "Agenda 19 to islands".

At a press conference on Monday, MDP's chairperson Hassan Latheef revealed that the campaign will take place from February 23rd to 25th.

He further stated that the campaign will prioritise going door-to-door, and will conduct workshops in five areas using information collected from the door-to-door campaign. These workshops will be held in 18 islands simultaneously, said Latheef.

Additionally, Vice-President of MDP Mohamed Shifaz disclosed that 18 teams have been formed to campaign within the atolls outside of Male' City.

MDP's campaign for the local council elections began with the Thiladhunmathi tour. A delegation consisting of 300 party members, parliamentarians representing the constituencies and the MDP leadership was led by Speaker and Former President Mohamed Nasheed during the tour. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih joined the delegation in time for the "Iruvai" conference held in Kulhudhuhfushi.

Speaking at the press conference, MDP's deputy chairperson (administrative) Ali Niyaz stated that the workshops planned for the campaign will feature four sessions and will follow the style of the Iruvai conference.

The topics for the four sessions include the decentralisation legislation, the 2020 state budget, increasing employment opportunities in the atolls, and development projects allocated to the specific island.
