The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced that a lunar eclipse prayer will be held on Friday at midnight.
The ministry stated that the eclipse will be visible on 10th January, a Friday, between 10:07 pm - 02:12 am with the peak of the eclipse taking place at 12:10 am.
As such, the ministry has announced that Salat ul-Khusuf or the lunar eclipse prayer will be performed around the country at midnight on Friday.
The last eclipse prayer was performed during the solar eclipse on December 26th 2019. The solar eclipse was visible to northern-most atolls at 08:51 am, southern-most atolls at 09:01 am and residents of capital city Malé observed the full eclipse at 08:56 am.
Salat ul-Khusuf is a two-rakaah prayer performed during a lunar eclipse in congregation by Muslim communities throughout the globe.
