An arrest was made in Meedhoo as well

Officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) made two arrests following drug busts in two outlying islands at the beginning of the week.

Both arrests were made following a tip-off that they were vastly involved in drug trafficking.

One of the arrests was made through a joint operation conducted by Dhidhdhoo Police Station and police intelligence.

As such, arrested during the operation at around 07:30am on Monday, was an 18-year-old. The drugs were confiscated following a court-ordered raid in his residence in Filladhoo island, where officers found a stash of 109 rubber packets filled with suspected narcotics.

Dhidhdhoo Police Station has launched further investigations into the case.

Further, police also made an arrest from Meedhoo island in Raa atoll as part of its ongoing operation to combat drug trafficking and smuggling.

A 30-year-old was arrested a little past 2pm on Sunday.

Police revealed that the man tossed two rubber packets filled with suspected narcotics when officers tried to take him into custody.

Meedhoo Magistrate Court slapped him with a remand of 10 days and he is to be kept in a location decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Police also revealed that Meedhoo Police Station is looking into the case.
