Jumhooree Party to contest every constituency in LCE2020

Jumhooree Party (JP), led by business tycoon Gasim Ibrahim, has announced that the party will contest for every constituency in the upcoming Local Council Elections slated for 4th April.
The decision was made at the party's 137th council meeting. Speaking to RaajjeMV, JP's senior spokesperson, Ali Solih stated that the party's council has decided to accept submissions to contest the Local Council Elections as of January 6th. Further, he stated that arrangements will be made to submit application forms online.
Solih further added that primaries will be held if more than one candidate applies to contest a constituency on the party's ticket.
While the opposition, comprised of Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC), has also declared that the coalition will be contesting every constituency, the main ruling party- Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has begun accepting submissions to contest in the party’s primaries for the upcoming Local Council Elections.
