Three men have been arrested following the search of five homes under suspicion of having involvement in drug trafficking.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed that five homes were searched in Lhaimagu island of Shaviyani atoll under suspicion of having involvement in drug trafficking during an operation conducted on the night of 31st December 2019. Three men were taken into police custody following the search.
During the search, authorities discovered a total of 171 cellophane packets and 30 rubber packets containing substances suspected to be drugs.
Those arrested include three Maldivian men of 18 years, 33 years and 29 years of age.
Authorities further disclosed that all three men tested positive for drugs upon urine analysis.
As such, the matter is currently undergoing further investigation under the jurisdiction of Funadhoo island police station.
