President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has given assurance of his administration's commitment to maintaining peace, progress and growth in the new year.

On the occasion of the New Year 2020, President Solih extended his greetings to the Maldivian people and recalled the highlights of his administration during the past year. He noted his administration's success in fulfilling their promise to create a peaceful and cohesive social climate.

Likewise, President Solih claimed that 2019 saw triumphs in areas of political discourse, international relations, social unity, and economic growth. The president reiterated his administration's commitment to continue undertaking efforts in providing dignified, financially stable lives for everyone in a just society devoid of discrimination.

Moreover, he emphasized his administrations' commitment to fight against injustice, advocate for human rights, uphold the rule of law, ensure Constitutional rights, diminish inequalities, and protect human dignity.

As such, Presiden Solih declared that the state shall face the new year with a new-found ambition towards socio-economic development, especially due to the recent sanction of the Eighth Amendment to the Decentralisation Act.

The amendment is expected to bring about a new chapter in decentralised administration, stated the president, as it is in line with the Administration’s vision of ‘Jazeera Raajje" and provides fiscal and legal autonomy for local councils in addition to empowering women.

The president's new year message concluded with wishing all the citizens of the Maldives a wonderful New Year while imploring all citizens to respect each other's rights and principles while adopting a path of peace and stability.
