Maldives Immigration has stated that efforts are being made to secure further achievements in the upcoming year of 2020 including the decentralisation of the Maldives Immigration's services.
Speaking at a special ceremony highlighting the office's achievements during 2019, both the Controller General of Immigration and the Deputy Controller declared that work is underway to achieve further success in 2020 in comparison to 2019 and added that these efforts will decentralise the services offered by the Maldives Immigration, making it easier for the citizens.
Highlights of the Maldives Immigration in 2019
1. Arrangements made for passport applications via e-mail and online payments
2. Initiated publishing the statistics of Maldives Immigration
3. Establishing a Document Examination Lab at Gan International Airport to expand border security
4. Period for issuing Business visa's shortened to 48 hours
5. 27 human trafficking cases found and reported to authorities.
6. Establishing an immigration office at Haa Alif atoll as part of the decentralisation efforts
7. Arrangements made for business visa and work visa services at Gan International Airport
8. Launching a Border Control Mobile System to issue seaport clearance
9. Launching "en-route clearance"
10. Introducing online work visa services
11. Introducing a call centre
12. Launching ‘Rashun’ service; a service that allows the passport application through island and atoll councils.
13. 25 officers provided with scholarship opportunities at bachelors and masters degree level
14. Training 131 immigration officers, and 48 people employed in sectors relevant to immigration
During the ceremony at the Immigration head office on Sunday, Controller General of Immigration, Mohamed Ahmed Hussain, inaugurated a video animation of the office's achievements during the past year.
As per the video, Maldives Immigration has 14 major achievements under its belt including heightening border security, increasing measures against human trafficking, identifying illegal migrants and increasing the quality of the services offered at Maldives' Immigration.
