Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has assisted a sinking boat which was travelling towards Thilafushi island of Kaafu atoll.
MNDF revealed that the boat named "Ran Muiy" was in the midst of travelling from the resort in Alimatha island of Vaavu Atoll to Thilafushi island of Kaafu atoll when it started sinking into a channel near Maafushi island.
MNDF stated that they received the report of the sinking boat around 03:00 am on early Wednesday morning and that the Male' area coast guard squadron is currently providing all necessary assistance.
Further reports state that the boat began to sink due to engine failure.
At the time of the incident, the boat was carrying one Maldivian and two foreigners on board.
