It is named "Stay Safe Afloat"
More categories will be added to next year's award ceremony

The National Boating Association of Maldives (NBAM) has announced that a life jacket awareness programme will be launched next year.

While speaking at the ceremony for Maldives Boating Awards 2019 held at Dharubaaruge on Monday night, the association's secretary-general Mohamed Ignaz Ali stated that a life jacket awareness program titled "Stay Safe Afloat" will be launched all around the country at the beginning of 2020.

The life jacket carries a life. Whenever we depend on someone, we don't expect the said person to always save us. We find safety on our own. As such, a program under the name of "Stay Safe Afloat" will be launched at the start of 2020.

According to Ignaz, the association has given utmost importance to providing all travellers with life jackets. He further stated that the safety of passengers must be guaranteed when travelling on ferries.

Maldives Boating Awards was founded in 2014 by the National Boating Association of Maldives to acknowledge professionals working in the boating industry. Awards were conferred in a total of 28 categories during the ceremony.

Ignaz also added that next year's award ceremony will have additional categories and expressed confidence in the tourism ministry's efforts to develop the boating industry.
