LCE2020: Draw to determine constituencies for gender quota set for Wednesday

Elections Commission of Maldives has announced that a draw to determine the constituencies for the seats reserved for women is scheduled for Wednesday.
The commission made the announcement via Twitter writing that the commission has decided to hold a random draw for to determine the constituencies for the seats reserved for women on 25th December.
The total number of island councillors amounts to 925 which includes 373 seats reserved for women and 373 seats to be contested by both men and women. There will be 179 vacancies for island council presidents and 18 seats for atoll councillors. Likewise, there will be a total of 197 seats on the atoll councils including the island council presidents.
The total amount of local council seats is 982.
Likewise, there will be a total of 929 seats on committees for women’s development with 895 members to be elected to the committees throughout islands and 34 women will be elected to the committees in cities.
