EC to hold by-elections for four Constituencies
By-elections announced after EC announced that 4 MPs lost their seats
MPs Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, Mohamed Ameeth, Abdul Latheef Mohamed and Saud Hussain are no longer MPs as per order

Elections Commission (EC) has announced that by-elections will be held for four Constituencies.

The Commission made the announcement in a press release issued on Wednesday.

The release stated that Thulusdhoo Constituency Member of Parliament Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, Madduvvari Constituency MP Mohamed Ameeth, Dhihdhoo Constituency MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed and Vilingili Constituency MP Saud Hussain had all lost their Parliamentary seats following the Supreme Court ruling.

The ruling criminalizes floor crossing and states that if the Party formally dismisses a sitting MP and notifies that the MP had been dismissed then the EC must consider it as such.

Therefore, EC says they will hold by-elections for those four Constituencies.

No date has been set for the by-elections.
