Well-celebrated across Shaviyani atoll, the young team of Foakaidhoo island has beat Club Eagles during Saturday’s match of the ongoing Dhiraagu Dhivehi League.

During the match held in Galolhu Stadium of capital city Malé on Saturday, Eagles lost to Foakaidhoo FC 3 – 2.

The first half of the match saw several attacks from Eagles players, with captain Ahmed Rizwan having gotten several chances to score. The team also took the lead in the match, having scored the first goal at the 24th minute.

Following the first goal by Eagles, Foakaidhoo FC had improved their attacks. The first half ended with a score of 1 – 0, Eagles in the lead.

The second score by Eagles came in the 50th minute by Ahmed Samaal. Foakaidhoo FC was on its tail with its first goal in the 57th minute after which things escalated for the team.

The score was tied 2 – 2 with Foakaidhoo’s second goal in the 89th minute by the time it ended. Foakaidhoo team’s third goal was scored during the additional minutes played.

After the match, Foakaidhoo team’s coach Ali Nisthaar stated that the match was proof of the players’ hard work and perseverance to show their best throughout the league. He added that if things go by the book, Foakaidhoo FC will be included among the top three teams.

After a brief hiatus of two months, the Dhiraagu Dhivehi League began on 16th December. Green Street and Maziya Sports and Recreation Club went head-to-head in the first match which was won by the latter with a 6 – 1 score.
