A white alert was issued over some parts on Friday afternoon and a yellow alert was also issued in the morning

The Maldives Meteorological Service has predicted adverse weather conditions to prevail over the country for the following week.

While a white alert has been issued over some regions due to persistent squally weather conditions, the department revealed that the weather is not expected to clear up for a week.

The while alert was issued from Baa to Laamu atoll from 3pm to 8pm on Friday. Heavy rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to prevails over the period with winds gusting at 40 miles per hour.

While choppy seas are expected to prevail over the next 24 hours, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected over most parts of the country.

Further, showers are expected to be heavy over northern and central atolls with winds gusting southeast to southerly in southern atolls and east to southeasterly elsewhere at a speed of 8 – 18 miles per hour.

MET department went on to reveal that Thulhaadhoo island in Baa atoll experienced severe showers within the past 24 hours, having experienced 104 millimeters of rain.

A yellow alert was issued over the region on Friday morning as well.

While there has been little to no sunshine at all during the past few days, MET predicts the weather to be dull and gray over the course of the next few days.
