Progressive Coalition will contest all districts in 2020 local elections
 
Any member that joined before 7th January 2020 will have the opportunity to contest seats on PPM's ticket.
 
Primaries are scheduled for January 24th next year.
 
Applications open from Friday up until January 7th.

The Progressive Coalition has announced that the alliance will be contesting council seats in every district in the upcoming local council elections scheduled for April 4th next year.

While speaking at a press conference held on Thursday night by the coalition between the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the Peoples National Congress (PNC), PPM's vice-president and head of the coalitions local council election steering committee, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu disclosed that the two parties, after holding a joint council meeting regarding the upcoming council elections, have decided that the coalition will contest seats in every district and that all of the coalition's candidates will contest seats on PPM's ticket.

In response to a RaajjeMV reporter asking for clarification on the decision to contest seats only on PPM's ticket, Muizzu claimed that the joint council determined it would be the best course of action for the alliance between two parties.

Muizzu also added that applications for interested parties will be open from Friday up until January 7th. Further, he stated that the forms will be available at every PPM office or branch around the country and that any individual that joins the party before 7th January 2020 will have the opportunity to contest at the local council elections on PPM's ticket.

Moreover, he stated that the coalition will hold primaries if the number of candidates exceeds the necessary amount.

As such, primaries are scheduled for January 24th next year. Muizzu added that if a second primary is necessary, it will be held on January 31st.

Additionally, all members who joined the party before January 17th are eligible to vote in the aforementioned primaries, said Muizzu.

Furthermore, Muizzu also stated that a complaint bureau will also be open from Friday onwards to cater to any concerns regarding the upcoming elections.
