Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested two individuals in major drug bust in capital city Malé.

Following a tip-off of large-scale drug trafficking to the Drug Intelligence Department, officers carried out an operation on Wednesday following which a 44-year-old and a 47-year-old were arrested.

While the raid was conducted in a house in Maafannu-ward of the capital under a court order, officers found 33 film cannisters stuffed with narcotics, eight cases and 22 bottles of alcohol.

Police also found a hefty amount of cash inside the house.

The Drug Enforcement Department has taken on further investigations into the case, police revealed.
