Maldives Immigration has announced that they are seeking public assistance in the search for a Bangladeshi national.
According to the announcement by Maldives Immigration made via Twitter, the authority is searching for 37-year-old, Mohammed Iqbal Hossain for violations of Immigration law. As such, no further information has been disclosed regarding the nature of the offense.
While immigration has requested public assistance, they also gave guaranteed to uphold confidentiality at all times.
They further request the public to contact the authority at 9199017 with any relevant information regarding the concerned individual.
Maldives Immigration recently cautioned 25 expatriates working in the Maldives without a work visa and apprehended an expatriate who was illegally operating an unregistered guest house in the past few weeks.
An estimate of 105,000 migrant workers currently works in the Maldives. This amount includes an overwhelming number of migrants without documentation such as passports and work visas. Immigration put the estimates at about 60,000.
While the ‘National Task-force on Issues Related to Migrant Workers’ has banned the recruitment of unskilled Bangladeshi workers for one year, the incumbent administration has launched a regularization program to allow migrants to register within six months.
