The People’s Majlis has passed to extend the ongoing session, for a second time.
While the third session of the parliament is to be held from October 1 to the end of November as per regulations, the parliament had -at its 71st sitting- extended passed to extend the session until December 5.
However, Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed announced the need to further extend the session to complete all necessary work at the start of Monday’s sitting.
61 MPs voted in favour of extending the session, while two said no. There was one abstention.
The 19th parliament began work from the second session of 2019, in May, and has held 73 sittings thus far.
Some of the work conducted since then include work to introduce the minimum wage and income tax bills.
The parliament is yet to pass the state budget for 2020.
