Maldivian, the country’s national airline has allocated one-way ticket fares to Maafaru island in Noonu atoll.
The airline revealed via Twitter that flight operations are scheduled to begin to Maafaru on 1 December, Sunday and that one-way ticket fares begin at MVR 750.
Maafaru International Airport, constructed within the scope of the USD 60 million grant aid from the Abu Dhabi fund, accommodates the largest aircrafts like Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.
The construction project of the airport was tasked on 24 December 2017 and the former administration of now jailed ex-President Abdulla Yameen had opened the airport before it was completed, in time for the Presidential Elections 2018.
Although it was contracted to be finished by August 2018, work remained incomplete.
Once the airport is opened for operations, it will begin international operations as well.
