Speaker, former President Mohamed has met with Frank Hess, Head of Cooperation at Delegation of European Union to the Maldives.

The meeting took place at the parliament secretariat, on Monday.

Nasheed and the EU official discussed the substantive issues on which the Maldives and the EU can constructively engage, highlighting areas such as Judicial reform among other important spheres.

Additionally, both agreed on the need for strengthening the EU-Maldives cooperation. In this regard, both expressed the need to strengthen the judiciary and undertake other similar measures that will enhance governance and ensure that the rights stipulated in our Constitution are adhered to and protected.

Ambassador Hess also shared details of his ongoing visit to the Maldives with the speaker, who in turn thanked the EU for its continued support to the country.

The EU official was in the Maldives in June this year, to attend the Maldives Partnership Forum, along with EU Ambassador to Maldives Tung-Lai Margue and Head of Political, Trade and Communications Section Thorsten Bargfrede.
