Minister of Home Affairs, Imran Abdulla, has stated that an environment for public co-operation with police needs to be fostered to strengthen law enforcement in the country.
The minister made the statement while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the newly constructed police station at HA.Hoarafushi.
During his speech, the minister noted that new types of social issues and crimes have been observed within the Maldivian society within the past few years and stated that law enforcement needs increased support to address these issues.
According to the minister, the current administration aims to bolster law enforcement by increasing police resources and fostering an environment for public co-operation with police.
The minister further stated that peace, harmony, and security is essential to society adding that society's development and progress of society is dependent on said peace, harmony, and security.
The newly constructed police station in Hoarafushi island was inaugurated by Minister Imran Abdulla and Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed.
After the inauguration, the national flag, and the flag of the Maldives Police Service were hoisted by the two officials, followed by a tour of the station.
