President Solih to stay neutral in MDP's election for VP
 
The position is being contested by Mohamed Shifaz, a Minister at the President’s Office, and the MP for North Hithadhoo constituency, Mohamed Aslam.

It has been revealed that President Ibrahim Solih remains unbiased towards the candidates nominated for the position of Vice-President of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

The position is being contested by Mohamed Shifaz, a Minister at the President’s Office, and the MP for North Hithadhoo constituency, Mohamed Aslam.

According to an official that spoke to RaajjeMV, President Solih has not disclosed any plans to announce his support for either candidate. Likewise, the official predicts the president will not be backing either candidate.

As such, MDP's president and the incumbent Speaker for Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed also has not announced his backing for either candidate.

MP for North Hithadhoo constituency, Mohamed Aslam is among members that have had the longest tenure in representing MDP in the parliament.

Mohamed Shifaz, a Minister at the President’s Office and the current MDP vice-president is also one of MDP's most committed members known for the extensive work he undertook while senior party officials were arrested by the previous government.
