part of the current administration's efforts to reform the country's judiciary.

While the parliament's judiciary committee recommends to establish a Task Force to investigate the reasons behind the backlog of court cases, Majlis is to take a vote on the matter at Monday's sitting.

As per the agenda for Monday's sitting, the judiciary committee's report on the matter will be read out at the sitting. Afterwards, parliament members will have the opportunity to debate and suggest amendments to the legislation.

A vote will be taken after.

The judiciary committee decided to recommend the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to establish a Task Force to investigate the reasons behind the backlog of court cases as part of the current administration's efforts to reform the country's judiciary.

Likewise, the commission's regulations were recently revised, and issues within the judiciary and the root of backlog court cases are being investigated with the JSC as an intermediary.

The Judicial Service Commission has also presented a report identifying issues within the criminal court that recommends forming an inter-agency task force consisting of members from the relevant authorities which has been approved by the judiciary committee.

According to JSC's report, the task force mandates identifying the issues within the criminal courts and finding resolutions to tackle them. The report goes on to describe the steps that can be taken to resolve the issues.

The report further highlights that there are over 1900 pending cases at the Criminal Court, including 12 cases that have been undetermined for over 10 years and another 12 cases for more than five years.
