Committee completes review of EC, NIC membership nominations
Fuwad Thoufeeq received the first place among nominations for EC membership
Three names were passed during interview sessions, for each commission

Parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions has forwarded its reports on the nominations for two commissions, to the People's Majlis floor.

Members are to be elected to the Elections Commission (EC) and National Integrity Commission (NIC).

Government began accepting applications for EC membership in September as current member Amjad Musthafa’s tenure ends on 24 November.

While the nominations by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih were sent for committee review, Fuwad received the highest number of votes on Saturday and it was forwarded to the parliament floor for approval.

The four names initially forwarded out of those who had applied for membership at the EC are; Fuwad Thoufeeq, Amjad, Hassan Nazim and Haneefa Khalid.

The committee passed three names after they passed the interview sessions. While Fuwad came in first, Amjad came second and Haneefa came last.

Fuwad previously served as the commission’s president.

Also on Saturday, the committee sent four nominations for NIC membership; Shuaib Abdul Rahman, Colonel (Rtd) Ahmed Jihad, Dr. Mariyam Shahuneeza Naseer and Hawwa Leesha.

Three names were passed after interview sessions; Shuaib, Jihad and Shahuneeza, whose names have been forwarded to the Majlis floor.

NIC membership was opened following Mohamed Faruhad’s resignation from the commission.
