Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin presented to Ahmed Adam and Abdulla Sodiq
 
Five received the National Award of Honour at the ceremony, while 21 individuals received the National Award of Recognition

The Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin has been awarded to Ahmed 'Hikari' Adam and Abdulla 'Soadhube' Sodiq.

The two honourees were presented with the laurels at the special ceremony held to mark this year’s National Day, on Monday night.

Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin honoree Ahmed Adam has been contributing to national development in the field of engineering such as establishing a Vocational Training Centre since the beginning of his career in the government in 1959 as well as serving in senior-level positions at the Ministry of Fisheries, Maldives Shipping Limited and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC),.

Likewise, Abdulla Sodiq has made countless contributions in the fields of literature, linguistics, and education and has served the Government for the past 55 years. He is a public figure recognized for his knowledge of the Dhivehi language as well as historical research, teaching and tutoring. Currently, he is a Consultant at the Dhivehi Bahuge Academy.

Additionally, the Late Dr. Afrasheem Ali and Late Dr. Abdul Majeed Abdul Bari were posthumously awarded the National Award of Honour for their contributions towards Islamic awareness and Islamic education, respectively.

The posthumous award for Late Dr. Afrasheem Ali was received by his brother Abdul Nasir Ali, whereas the award for Late Dr. Abdul Majeed Abdul Bari was received by his son, Muaz Abdul Majeed.

The Late Dr. Afrasheem Ali, who was murdered on 1st October 2012, was a prestigious religious scholar and educator as well as a JSC member and member of parliament.

The Late Dr. Abdul Majeed Abdul Bari, by the time of his death last year on May 22nd due to his failing health, was a religious scholar, university lecturer as well as the Minister of Islamic Affairs.

In addition to the Late Dr. Afrasheem Ali and Late Dr. Abdul Majeed Abdul Bari, the National Award of Honour was also presented to Mohamed ‘Madulu’ Waheed, for his contributions to Dhivehi literature, Sayyid Ali, in the area of sports development and Sayyid Hassan (posthumous), for his contributions in the area of sports in sportsmanship and sports development.

21 individuals received the National Award of Recognition this year. They are;

  1. Mohamed Thaufeeq Ali, in the area of recitation and teaching of the Holy Quran;
  2. Dr Abdulla Jameel, for his contributions in the field of Islamic awareness and Islamic education;
  3. Mohamed Shifan, in the area of Dhivehi literature in promoting oratory skills;
  4. Maryam Shathurath Shakir, for her contributions in the field of teaching children with special needs;
  5. Ahmed Afaal, for his contributions in health sector development;
  6. Rahma Easa, in the area of human rights and social protection, especially services to persons with special needs;
  7. Abdulla Shafeeq Nishan, for his contributions in the fisheries sector;
  8. Zeenaz Hussain, for her contributions in the field of tourism and training tourism-sector staff;
  9. Tiny Hearts of Maldives, for its contribution to social work;
  10. Aneesa Mohamed, in the area of promoting arts and crafts;
  11. Ibrahim Solih, for his contributions to promoting arts and crafts;
  12. Shaziya Saeed, in the field of diving;
  13. Aishath Shareefa, for her contributions in the area of hair care and beauty;
  14. Mohamed Shakir Abdulla, in the area of disseminating news and information;
  15. Hussain Fariyad, for his contributions in the field of news and information dissemination;
  16. Imran Mohamed, in the field of sports and promoting professional sportsmanship;
  17. Ismail Mahfooz, for his contributions in the area of sports and promoting professional sportsmanship;
  18. Ibrahim Shiuree, in the field of sports and promoting professional sportsmanship;
  19. Fadhuwa Zahir, for her contributions to sports and sportsmanship;
  20. Abdul Rasheed Ali, in the area of performing arts; and,
  21. Aishath Shamla, for her contributions to the field of applied arts.
