Crackdown on Political Figures
MDP SG ordered to report to police for questioning
Anas is the latest opposition figure to be summoned to police
In addition to Anas, MPs Faris, Riyaz and Qasim have been summoned previously
The opposition has formed a coalition, with the goal of reforming the government

Anas Abdul Sattar, secretary general of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has been issued summon notice by the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

Anas confirmed the summoning to RaajjeMV.

According to his summon notice, he has been asked to present himself at the police headquarters at 8 pm on Thursday, March 30.

The notice does not state a reason for the summon, only that he is required to be present ‘for questioning’.

He is the latest of the opposition to be summoned to the police, as authorities continue to use various methods to intimidate the opposition. In addition to Anas, MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon, MP Abdulla Riyaz and MP and Jumhooree Party leader have been summoned to the police in the past few days.

MP Faris, on Friday, revealed that he had been summoned to police ‘five times in three days’.

Major four opposition parties- MDP, JP, Progressive Party of Maldives and Adhaalath Party- are currently working together to reform the government, with its leaders signing a memorandum on Friday.
