The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that there have been three cases of leprosy recorded this year.
In a statement released on Friday, HPA stated that there has been an average of seven leprosy cases since implementing the Leprosy Elimination Programme for the past two to three years.
The statement follows rumors that surfaced about leprosy cases in GDh. Faresmaathoda, which the island's Health Centre denies.
While authorities have launched screening programmes across the country, as part of the national initiative to eliminate the disease by 2030, HPA said that a programme will be held in Faresmaathoda island as well.
HPA urges all residents of the island to participate in the screening program.
