The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced two vacancies for high court judges.
The vacancy was announced following the passing of the amendment to court regulations by the 18th Parliament to increase the High Court's judges bench to 11, including chief judge.
Two years have passed since the legislation was amended, approved by the President, and published in the government gazette. The legislation was approved on 18th June 2017.
The legislation states that the vacancy for two judges must be filled within three months of the bill being put into effect, however, JSC just announced the vacancy.
Prior to the amendment to the legislation, there were only nine judges in the High Court.
According to the announcement by the JSC, applicants must be over 25 years of age, have a first degree in the line of Law or Islamic Shariah and have five years of experience in the field of law.
The announcement further states that the remuneration will include a basic salary of MVR 36,000, MVR 15,000 as living allowance, MVR 3,300 as risk allowance along with phone allowance and medical insurance as decided by the people’s parliament. Interested applicants must submit their curriculum vitae and academic certificates by 14:00 on 21st October.
