An Australian citizen has been apprehended by Maldivian authorities.
Maldives Customs said that the 66-year-old man had traveled to the country from Brazil, and that he was caught on October 1.
Noting that he was inspected due to “suspicious activity,” Customs said that the suspected narcotics were found in his luggage.
These are to have tested positive for cocaine.
Customs said that the cocaine, weighing 4.67 kilogram, is estimated to be worth MVR 16,327,913.
The man has been handed over to the police, along with the confiscated drugs.
Maldives Customs has confiscated over 33kg of drugs thus far this year.
