President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s nominations for commissioner and deputy commissioner general of taxation have been forwarded to the parliament’s committee on economic affairs, for further review.
Parliament’s assistant secretary general read out a list of the president’s list, from those that applied and qualified for the posts, at Monday’s sitting.
While the nominees were read out as per the order sent, the president’s nominees for commissioner general of taxation are Fathuhulla Jameel and Ismail Nashid.
The six nominees for deputy commissioner general are; Mohamed Siraj Muneer, Asma Shafeeu, Ismail Sajid, Ahmed Shareef, Ahmed Wafir and Hamdhy Agheel.
In addition, President’s Solih’s nomination for the post of Maldives’ ambassador to the Organization of the Islamic Corporation (OIC), current Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Mohamed Khaleel, was forwarded to the committee on national security and foreign relations.
As per last month’s amendment to the Tax Administration Act, a commissioner general must be appointed within 30 days from the date of ratification; the amendment was ratified on September 17.
