JSC to investigate eight complaints against judges, out of the 73 lodged
JSC has formed a committee to investigate the cases, as well as to review the rejected cases
It decided that there was no cause to investigate 58 of the complaints

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to investigate eight complaints against judges, out of the 73 submitted within the last month.

While JSC has formed a three-member committee, as per the changes made to the Judicial Services Commission Act last month, the committee released a report of the first month’s work on Monday.

As per the report, a total of 73 complaints were filed at the committee. While the committee has reached decisions in 66 of the cases, it decided that there was no cause to investigate 58 of the cases.

Furthermore, it decided to investigate eight disciplinary cases against judges.

JSC has already formed an investigation committee, which will not only investigate the eight cases decided by the review committee but also study the rejected the cases.

The legislative body said that the investigation committee has already begun this work.

In addition, JSC has handed over its report on issues in courts -including in accepting and handling cases, and whether there is any undue influence in courtroom and administrative procedures- to the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA), which DJA stressed is “is mandated to organize, implement and oversee all administrative matters of the judiciary.”

While JSC added that the decision to handover the report was based “on a complaint lodged by the State Bank of India,” it did not elaborate further on the matter.
