The Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure has contracted two companies with the development of harbors in three islands.

Contracted were Maldives Transport and Contracting Company with harbor development in Maavah, Laamu atoll and Miladhoo, Noonu atoll and SAS E Construction with the development of Maamendhoo harbor, Gaaf Alif atoll.

Both contracts were signed with MTCC on Wednesday, with Permanent Secretary of Planning Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed signing on behalf of the government and the COO of MTCC Shahid Hussain Moosa, signing on behalf of the company.

While the harbor development project in Maavah is expected to cost MVR 27,376,010, it is contracted to be completed within 330 days and will consist of dredging 15,300 cubic meters, constructing a breakwater of 284 meters, revetment of 40 meters, quay wall of 110 meters, 10 mooring blocks, harbor lights and a ramp as well as a 550-square-meter long pavement.

MTCC is to complete the Miladhoo harbor within the same period, at a price of MVR 42,183,082.

Under the project, MTCC will be dredging 36,215 cubic meters along with the construction of a 248-meter breakwater, 20 meters of groynes, 286 meters of quay wall and 137 meters of revetment.

Further, the construction of a 1,430 square-meter pavement and installation of street and harbor lights, a ramp and mooring blocks is also included in the contract.

SAS E Construction is tasked with completing the construction of 600-meters of revetment, 75-meters of breakwater, six access jetties, 13 mooring blocks, a 1,992 square-meter pavement, installation of 32 harbor lights, and dredging of12,969 cubic meters within a period of 450 days for a price of MVR 31,141,293.
