President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended sympathies to Prime Minister Imran Khan, following an earthquake in Pakistan that lead to the loss of lives and destruction of homes and infrastructure.
In a tweet sent out on Wednesday, the Maldives’ leader said that he was saddened to hear of the earthquake that killed at least 30 and injured hundreds of people.
Solih also extended his prayers to the victims and their families.
Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has also sent a condolence message to his Pakistani counterpart, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and extended sympathies from the government and people of Maldives.
It was with deep shock and sadness that I learnt about the powerful earthquake that struck northern Pakistan yesterday, leading to the loss of innocent lives, injuring hundreds and destroying homes and infrastructure.
A 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Pakistan on Tuesday, with the quake's epicentre reported close to the city of Mirpur, which is in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Authorities said that the death toll from the earthquake has reached 37 and that over 500 people were injured.
