Running event held for Democracy Day

Elections Commission (EC) has held a running event for the International Day of Democracy.
The Democracy Run event was held on Saturday morning in Hulhumale’.
The event was inaugurated by EC President Ahmed Shareef, Defence Minister Mariya Didi, Communications Minister Maleeh Jamal and MDP Chairperson Hassan Latheef.
EC stated that the purpose of the event is to show the solidarity of Maldivians on Democracy Day.
A total of 600 people joined the running event, including senior officials and employees of the government, EC and organizations.
The International Day of Democracy is celebrated on September 15 every year and is an opportunity to review the state of democracy in the world. This year’s theme is participation, the purpose of which is to recall that democracy is built on inclusion, equal treatment and participation of people.
